The Lloyd Sealy Library is central to the educational mission of John Jay College. We facilitate student learning through reference and instruction services and provide print and digital collections to support the college’s curriculum and faculty and student research. As the knowledge center of the college community, the library serves as the gateway to the world of criminal justice and related information.
We hope this information will provide some useful tools for your teaching and research as you begin your journey at John Jay.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions: via chat or libref@jjay.cuny.edu.
Visit our online Guide for Faculty for an overview. You can also select Faculty Services menu at the top of the Library home page to access these resources.
Here are some shortcuts to those that you might need to get started right away:
Teaching resources – General
Teaching information literacy: Library’s guide with assignment ideas, tips and tools
Library instruction: Arrange a visit with your students for a librarian-led session in the Library classroom, or have a librarian visit your classroom for a brief tutorial.
Using Library reserves: Print and electronic reserves for your assigned readings. Help students get easy access and save money.
Suggest purchases: Check OneSearch to see if the Library owns the book(s) you plan to assign. If not, you may request a purchase, but be aware those are not guaranteed and do take time to process (Note: textbooks are not in the budget). See Using Library reserves above for alternative solution.
Research/scholarship resources
Interlibrary loan: Request items such as books, articles, and other materials that are not available via the John Jay Library
Faculty scholarship: The Library’s guide to citation analysis, journal ranking, assessment measures and publishing guidance
CUNY Academic Works: The institutional repository of the university, providing a platform for the archiving and free dissemination of faculty publications.
